NOTES The Phallic King's cape and crown, as well as his emphatic endowment, proclaim his royal status. His eyes closed, the is enraptured in a distant ecstacy. This powerfully phallic figure is representative of those fired in clay by artisans of the Mochica culture, along the coast of Peru. Their highly realistic sculptures display deep knowledge of human anatomy and suggest a natural celebration of sexuality.
